Sept. 9th was a blast

I have to say - we have a small group - micro almost - but we have the best time. Everyone cheers for everyone and we never ask twice for help. Love it. Disclaimer: the barrels were not set on the markers as they should have been, but we had fun anyway.

Another clear beautiful night in Colorado and my daughter, Casey, rode my horse, Cash, and did a bang up job. She has barely ever ridden him and took him down to the arena for her barrel runs since her horse pulled something and she looked beyond gorgeous.

Brittany also had to use a different horse and still smoked her runs and looked gorgeous while doing so. She comes to our little event with a whole posse of helpers and has a blast. Her brother will be running soon and probably smoke her butt.

Ashleigh looks like she is a pod person who came to our first event and she has come so far so fast. She and her horse (whose name I don't recall) were hauling ass at the last event, go Ashleigh. She is in middle school at the same school my daughter attends and where Morgan and Chelsee go as well.

Rebecca was riding a new horse as well and she's turning into quite the young lady. She also hauls with a posse behind her and some help from her friend Dan. She did a great job on a horse that she does not normally use and really powered through. The horse though did a bang-up job as well. Blond hair flying, that's Rebecca riding at the arena!

Morgan has been doing all her own training on her horse, Stormy, and while I was very adamant to my friend that the horse was too young for her daughter, she promptly ignored me and made them work into a team. While Morgan gets a crow hump every now and then, they ARE making quite a team!

Chelsee is still in the walk/trot category but she has fun making her mom run through the pattern with her, and frankly, I'm starting to wonder if maybe Chelsee isn't just picking on her mom by making her do it! Pretty sure Audra was going to have to call for a defibrillator at this last event.

Of course, I wasn't far behind her with my Dylan and walk/trot and of course I wore the wrong shoes, but considering my feet, there really aren't any "good" shoes for me to wear. Dylan did great and that pony of his actually humped up on Casey during the poles and did a bang up trotting job for Dylan.

Audra smokes her runs all the time, so no surprise there, but she had a time with her horse, Victor, this last time as he hadn't been to the gymkhana this month due to an injury and you could tell. His second run on the barrels and the poles were perfect, first runs not so much, but Audra knows how to power through and keep on working.

Good fun.

June 17th next barrels and poles point night

Reminder: This Friday - June 17 - is the next Barrels and Poles Event. We are going to have at least 8 more events and it takes 7 to qualify, we can also have a double run night if anyone needs an extra "night" to qualify and don't forget you can "buy" a night. We are a small group but we are having a good time! Been a rough start between the wind and the equine virus, but come on down and have some fun. 100% of entry fees (minus $1 a run) goes toward awards and everyone, no matter where they placed will get a nice award.

Event Dates:

July 8

August 12 & 26

September 9 & 23

October 7 & 21 (no longer raindates, now regular dates)

Will make at least one of these dates a "double" points night and we'll make two runs per event. Waiving the working requirement, as the people showing up have been more than willing to work!

May 6 Results for Barrels and Poles

Thank you to the small crowd that came out and had a good time at the arena on May 6th. It was not the best planning date as Bonnie Wheatley was having her event the same weekend at the Penrose Arena. I get so busy and time gets so short it’s hard to keep up. I try not to schedule over other’s events and missed this one. I will add a night to the schedule if people are interested

It was a gorgeous night out and we have a new family with a pending membership to our club. Welcome to Ashleigh Barnes and her parents! And of course, thanks to our current members who helped out! I have on the word list: Paige M.; Laura and G; Audra S.; Robin Buckley; Dan Hernandez; and Ardie Bruce. If I’ve missed anyone please let me know.

April 22 Barrels and Poles canceled due to high winds

Due to winds from 30-60 MPH tonight's event is canceled for Barrels and Poles at Fountain. The next event is May 6th at 7:30 pm. Please pass the word!

Thank you

Tuesday night jackpots in Fountain!

It was a beautiful night to get the summer started. We had a decent turnout for the minimal amount of advertising that was done - mostly word of mouth and a few internet sites. Andy Dickens' dad worked the ground more than a few times before the event and MaryAnna Clemons learned how to not dig holes in the ground with the "Hog" while trying to rake between every five barrel racers. Fran Carrick lent her voice to our announcer's booth and Ardith Bruce and Dan Hernandez were the treasurer's.

We are hoping to have concessions at the next event. The FRRC added $200 to the first two races to see how that would help promote the jackpots and the racers were able to earn a bit of money for supporting our event.

April 22 will have $200 added again and we encourage everyone to come and have a good time. The May 3rd race will be an SCBRA money-maker (no added money). Please utilize word of mouth advertising and let people know we've changed our jackpot nights and that we are working toward keeping and finding more added money for the racers. We need your support to keep that going!

10-event series in Fountain, Colorado

It certainly has been awhile since I have updated this blog, but we are going to have a 10-event series this Spring - Summer - Fall.

We have a barrels and poles series coming up in Fountain, Colo., just for you! 100% of the entry fees (minus $1 a run for the club) go toward your awards.

No kidding. We will have a series of 10 events and it's not for the type of barrel racer that is already winning big bucks (although, if you are seasoning a horse, you might want to come and play) but rather for the barrel racer who is trying to get with a new horse; trying to season a young horse; training any old horse; a younger barrel racer who is just starting out; or any barrel racers who would like to earn some nice awards. All ages and abilities are welcome!

Every place will receive a nice award, period (not just the top three or five or even ten - everyone - you pay, you play, you earn! And it will be a nice award.). This is a volunteer force and you will be expected to help. The event is co-sponsored by the Fountain Riding and Roping Club, but is being run as a separate event. Particulars: You must be a member to be in the series; $15 for barrels or $23 for barrels and poles or just $8 for poles; we will have 10 events, you must participate in 7 and you are allowed to "buy" a night with no points added; you are required to work four of the events and anyone can work the event for you (husband, grandma, etc) and you can also "buy" a work night; $3 exhibitions, $5 non-member exhibitions; a D for every rider since our barrels are fast time plus 2 seconds between each D and for poles it's fast time plus three seconds!

Award goal is a buckle for each barrels D and a jacket for each poles D winner. Awards will be based on money raised via participation and fund-raising.

Please contact MaryAnna Clemons (clemonsmary@yahoo.com or 719-683-5202) for more info or show up on April 22 at 7 pm to join and run - exhibitions start at 7:30 and the race is to follow. If we have a tractor driver, we'll rake, if we don't we'll hand rake. Dates of series: April 22; May 6 & 27; June 10 & 17; July 8; Aug. 12 & 26; Sept. 9 & 23; rain-dates Oct. 7 & 21; Awards tentatively cheduled for Nov. 27.

Thank you.
